Overview
Marvelous Maximus and the Helmet of Wonder is a children’s book inspired by a real family story and their son’s journey with craniosynostosis.
The story follows Maximus as he reimagines his cranial helmet as something more—a “helmet of wonder.” Through imagination and small acts of courage, he learns that kindness has the power to make a real impact.
At its core, the book is a reminder that what makes us different can also make us strong.
My Role
Illustration | Visual Storytelling | Character Design
I worked closely with the author and publishing team to bring Maximus’s story to life through warm, expressive illustration.
My focus was on:

Supporting the narrative through clear, intentional visual moments

Transforming the helmet into a symbol of imagination and empowerment
Each illustration was designed to feel approachable while reinforcing the story’s message of courage and kindness.
Creative Approach
My work is rooted in taking on projects that feel meaningful and allow me to grow creatively—and this project was exactly that.
Children’s illustration requires simplicity with purpose. Every detail needs to carry emotion and clarity. For Marvelous Maximus, I focused on using color, expression, and composition to support the story in a natural, honest way.
This project pushed me into long-form storytelling and expanded my practice beyond traditional design work.
